Niche marketing is basically the art of picking a profitable section of a market to target and then you market products for the chosen audience.  This does seem a little complicated, but once I break it down for you it will become easy for you to understand.  First of all a niche is a small part of a large market.  For example, gardening can be considered a niche, but you can go a little bit deeper and choose something more specific such as organic gardening or even growing tomatoes.  These are examples of niches and they are what we are looking for when we perform niche marketing research.

Choosing a niche is not that hard either.  You need to make sure that the niches you choose to target have very little competition.  If you choose niches with very high competition you will not become profitable because many large companies have cornered the larger markets.  We are basically going for the low hanging fruits as many would say.  We are searching for markets that have very low competition but also very high search volume.  Finding a niche with these prerequisites is not that difficult.  You can use amazon.com and use their website to drill down into niches that you have probably never heard of.  The last time I checked there were over 50,000 different niches and there are new ones being created every day.  This means there is plenty of room for you to get in on the niche marketing scene.
